Jonathan Hernandez, a 6th-grade student at Alamo Elementary School honored at VUSD Board Meeting

Alamo Elementary School sixth grader, Jonathan Hernandez was honored as its Student of the Year at the November 16 VUSD Board Meeting.

His teacher, Kayla Freed had this to say about Jonathan.

"I am honored to stand up here and talk about one of my amazing 6th-grade students from Alamo Elementary School, Jonathan Hernandez.

Jonathan has been a role model in my class for the last two years. Jonathan is always on task and tries his hardest while completing his classwork. Jonathan is always up for a challenge. Whether learning two-digit by two-digit multiplication or learning to read more challenging books.

Jonathan has many strengths. One of these is his ability to be friends with everyone. Jonathan invites everyone to play gag ball with him at recess and he will even let others win so they feel happy and included. Jonathan will help his classmates and encourage them to do their best in class.

Jonathan is a fantastic artist. He draws the Mandalorian with such great details that it is hard to see at first glance that he hid his spelling words in the picture. Jonathan likes to get creative with his artwork in class while complementing his peers' artwork. Jonathan always finds something positive to say about anyone's artwork.

This year, Jonathan is room 19's class representative for student council and it is wonderful seeing him take on a leadership role in class and around campus. He can track when there are meetings and has enjoyed helping judge the pumpkin contest this year.

These are just a few reasons we honor Jonathan Hernandez as Alamo Elementary School's student of the year."
